Electrical contractors in and around the St. Louis area are in search of young, energetic, ambitious individuals who are looking for a career in the trades. Hundreds, of graduates from the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Association have been able to secure their future in the electrical industry. Often they go on to become project managers, estimators, foremen and, many are now successful business owners.
It’s no secret that attending a full-time college is not attractive to many seniors. However, the option of attending an apprenticeship program and earning monies while you learn can be a great alternative to a state university. I have attached information about the electrical program at IEC which is located in Chesterfield, Missouri. If you have students who may have an interest in pursuing the electrical field and may be more suited for an apprenticeship program, please share this information. Applications are currently being accepted at www.iecstl.com through June 30, 2020. Applicants must be 18 years of age before starting school in August, have their high school diploma or GED, have reliable transportation and be eager to start work with a licensed and bonded electrical contractor!
The IEC electrical program has been given an A+ rating by the American Council of Education and is considered to be the best apprenticeship program in the industry. There are over 50 IEC chapters nationwide. The IEC of Greater St. Louis is one of the largest chapter with over 70 contractors who are employing and training apprentices. The National office is located in Arlington, VA. To learn more about the program through IEC, students can view www.myelectriccareer.com, which offers testimonials and valuable information about the trade.
Missouri Registered Apprenticeships- Registered Apprenticeship is a highly flexible “earn while you learn” training model for employment that pays more as a worker (apprentice) reaches higher productivity levels. In addition to rewarding performance, Registered Apprenticeship combines employer-driven job-related instruction with extensive on-the-job learning under the supervision of a trade professional. After completing a Registered Apprenticeship, the apprentice receives a nationally-recognized occupational credential that communicates the standards and high level of training that their employer provides.
