Missouri Course Access Program (MOCAP)

  • Under Missouri House Bill 1552, students may enroll in virtual courses through the Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP).  There are multiple pathways for virtual learning for Wentzville School District students through the Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP).

    Definitions
    MOCAP Provider: Virtual learning system/provider
    Host: A Missouri school district hosting the MOCAP provider.
    Without a Host: Wentzville School District (local school district) hosting MOCAP provider.

    Students may enroll full-time with a MOCAP Provider with Host. Students enrolling with a MOCAP Provider with Host would first contact the provider directly and complete the “Host” provider’s enrollment process.  Once accepted by a “Host” provider, students become unenrolled with the Wentzville School district and become enrolled by the “Host” provider’s district.     Students may enroll in a MOCAP Provider without a Host. Students* wishing to enroll with a MOCAP provider without a host would begin the registration process by contacting your school counselor**. Students enrolled with a MOCAP provider without a host remain enrolled in the Wentzville School District. You can visit the MOCAP webpage to learn more.

    * The Wentzville School District is not required to provide students access to or pay for courses beyond the equivalent of full-time enrollment.  If at any time, a student is not able to maintain academic success, the district reserves the right to change a student’s enrollment to an in-person model, if needed.  Students participating in MSHSAA sports may have additional requirements.

    ** Once the request to participate in a MOCAP Provider without a Host has been received by the school counselor, the request will be reviewed and determined if the request is in the “best educational interest” of the student before enrollment.

    Before electing to enroll in a virtual program, it is important to consider whether virtual learning is in the best educational interest of the individual student. We encourage you to consider the following:

    I am a motivated learner.

    • I ask questions and seek understanding while I learn.

    • I make connections between what I am learning and my own interests.

    • I reach out to my teachers and peers often for support.  

    • I have demonstrated success in past virtual learning opportunities.

    I am an independent learner.

    • I am comfortable learning in an environment where learners take responsibility for their own learning processes.

    • I am able to devote extended time at each sitting to complete online coursework.

    • I am able to devote 5-15 hours of time each week to my online learning.

    • I can prepare and study for exams on my own.

    • I am organized and demonstrate good time management skills.

    • Reading independently is one of my strengths.

    I am a strong communicator.

    • I regularly reach out to my teachers when I need help.

    • I am comfortable communicating with my teacher online through emails and messages versus regular face-to-face contact.

    I am an organized learner.

    • I do most of my assignments without adults having to remind me.

    • I manage my time well.

    • I am successful at meeting deadlines and due dates.

    • I like to make plans when I have a lot of work to complete and I am successful with those plans.

    • I am a strong goal setter and have shown success in meeting my goals.

    I have basic technical skills.

    • I can use basic word processing software.

    • I can upload and download documents.

    • I read directions and view all of the information provided to me before clicking or contacting the teacher for help.

    I know how to create a good study environment.

    • When I am working on my online courses, I can avoid my cell phone and opening other browsers so I don’t get distracted.

    • I am persistent and work through problems without getting easily frustrated.

    • I can find a quiet, well-lit space to do my online coursework.

    I am a problem-solver.

    • If I face a technical issue and have a deadline to meet, I can find another way to get my work done.

      • Ex. If the internet goes out at my house, I will go to a library, a neighbor’s or friend’s house.

      • Ex. If my computer crashes, I will reach out to a friend or neighbor to borrow a device.

    • I keep trying when I am faced with challenges.

    • I have a back-up plan if something happens to my computer or my schedule suddenly changes.

    I understand how to practice basic online etiquette.

    • I consistently use online tools in positive ways.

    • I think through ideas presented before I respond online.

    • I read through the messages and posts I make to be sure they sound kind and positive before I send them.

    Legal Notice
    Because virtual instruction can be an effective education option for some students, the district may offer virtual courses to students through district staff or by contracting for those services as part of the district-sponsored curriculum.

    The district will accept all grades and credits earned through district-sponsored virtual instruction and MOCAP.

    The district is not required to provide students access to or pay for courses beyond the equivalent of full-time enrollment. 

    Students taking courses virtually are subject to district policies, procedures, and rules applicable to students enrolled in traditional courses including, but not limited to, the district's discipline code and prohibitions on academic dishonesty, discrimination, harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying.
