Izzy Ackley Wins Girls Swimming State Title
Timberland High School junior Isabelle (Izzy) Ackley’s record-setting 100-yard backstroke earned her a girls swimming and diving Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2 State Championship title on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Mo.
Ackley’s winning backstroke time of 54.46 broke her own Class 2 record time of 54.68 from prelims just the day before.
She also took home second place at state in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.13 and earned third place alongside teammates Emma Wisker, Brooke Gustafson, and Alison Schoene in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.15.
Ackley’s first-place finish at the state meet comes on the heels of her GAC South Division girls swimming and diving championship victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.04, which broke the conference record of 55.45. She also won the GAC 100 butterfly title and joined her teammates in winning the South Division team title for the third successive season.
