Mr. Brad Buchanan

My family and I have lived in the district since 2011. The positive reputation of the Wentzville School District played an important role in our decision to move here. My two sons currently go to Discovery Ridge and have since kindergarten. My oldest will attend Frontier next year, and my youngest will move to Prairie View due to the most recent boundary changes.

As a parent I have seen first-hand the issues facing our growing district and the impact these issues have had on our families. I have had to explain to my youngest son why he has to move schools but his friends don’t. I have had to listen to my older son complain about how cramped his math class is now that they are meeting in a room, that up until last year, was a small storage closet. We each have our own stories to tell, but I think these examples show that we need to have parent representatives on the Board of Education. The choices being made now and in the future aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet; these are choices that are impacting real students and families.

My education and professional background are in technology. I want to bring a stronger focus on technology to the Board of Education.   Our children will be competing for jobs that we can’t even imagine yet. Based on job market estimates, 60-85% of the jobs available in 2030 haven’t been invented yet. We need to make sure we do everything we can to ensure Wentzville School District graduates lead the way.

In the last few years our district has been moving in a positive direction, and I hope to see that continue. Over the next few years the Board of Education will have to make some difficult decisions. Simply saying “no” or kicking the issues down the road will mean our district is running to catch-up instead of leading the way. I want to be a part of the future of the Board of Education, but I can’t do it without the support of the great families in our district.
