    The Wentzville School District/Lou Fusz Student-Athlete of the Month aims to recognize varsity student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom, commitment, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The student-athletes below were honored for their performances during December 2019.

     January 2020 Student-Athletes of the Month


    HOLT

    HANNA REEB // SWIMMING // SENIOR
    Senior Hannah Reeb is a three-sport student-athlete at Holt, part of the cross country, track and swimming teams. She has stepped up as a leader and often helps to guide the younger swimmers on the team. In the classroom, she maintains a 4.5 GPA and also participates in National Honor Society, Key Club, Link Crew, and Student Council.

    BRETT SMITH // WRESTLING // FRESHMAN
    Freshman Brett Smith has been a solid performer for the Holt Wrestling squad. In December, he placed in top 10 at the KC Stampede and finished 6th at the Knockout Christmas Classic in Florida. Smith recently claimed the GAC Championship at 145 lbs. and has established himself as a leader among his teammates. He has a 3.57 GPA.


     
    LIBERTY

    KARLIE WOOTEN // CHEER // SOPHOMORE
    Liberty sophomore Karlie Wooten is part of the cheer squad that recently placed 4th at the state competition and she is also part of the track team. As a freshman, she was part of the 4x800 relay team that captured the state title. A hard worker with a positive attitude, Karlie is also an honor roll student in the classroom, with a 3.2 GPA.

    PEYTON VIELUF // BASKETBALL // JUNIOR
    Peyton Vieluf started the basketball season on the JV team but was recently promoted to the varsity squad. In his last two games, he’s averaged 14.5 points per game, adding his perimeter shooting skill to the roster. He also participates in baseball in the spring and maintains a 3.91 GPA.


     

    TIMBERLAND

    COURTNEY LEDBETTER // SWIMMING // JUNIOR
    Throughout the season, Courtney has gotten better at developing positive thinking strategies and keeping an optimistic attitude whether her races go the way we want them to or not. She had several stellar performances in the month of December including earning state-consideration times in the 50 and 100 freestyle and being a large contributor to the state-consideration earning 200 & 400 freestyle relays.

    BLAKE LYERLA // BASKETBALL // SENIOR
    Blake Lyerla is a senior on the varsity boys basketball team.  He is currently carrying a 3.1 GPA, and leads the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game and rebounding with 4.8 rebounds per game.  He was named to the all-tournament team in December at the Winfield Tournament where he averaged 16 ppg and 3.7 rpg during the tournament and helped guide the Wolves to a 2nd place finish.
